Queen Chrysalis 360 by Dragon620026 Queen Chrysalis 360 by Dragon620026
Queen Chrysalis has been SOLD!

Queen Chrysalis shots from all angles.
She was made from a regular pink Princess Celestia mold.

Overall the changes I made on her were:
- new hair and tail
- new horn
- her crown
- new legs
- eyelashes
- spots on her neck
- added hocks to her legs
- indentation on the base of her neck rather than it being painted on.
- wings

Wings aren't stiff. They do stand upright on their own, however wings have a sort of flutter/vibration when someone picks her up or moves her. I honestly think this is the coolest thing about her. I also gave her a tummy tuck! She does have a thinner tummy/waist than her pink Princess Celestia counterpart.

She was repainted in acrylics and sealed for protection. I'd like to thank the mlparena forum which had a lot of helpful suggestions from other people who were also making her.

That's a rather fantastic sculpt you have there! Do you mind telling me how you did her wings? I'll like to try sculpting her as well and I'm kinda baffled on how to do her wings, how to attach it and all. Thanks!

I actually didn't drill the holes. I simply cut and molded legs. It was REALLY difficult.

500? what material is she made from and what tools are you using? Is she made Onyx? Well either way it's a great work of art! And there have been plenty of bronies with higher incomes so best of luck!
It's a shame this can't be more easily massed produced by you because sellfing one for 25-30 a pop would net you far more money in the long run then something like this. Again though if only it could be more easily massed produced more people be able to partake in these customs :P (reminded now why I don't comment on these! lol)

I was not expecting a Bronycon level price there xD but it would be worth it if I a 100-200k a year salary lol

There's probably 40+ hours involved in making this, multiply that by minimum wage where you live. No onyx is necessary.

410 is what I got :P still pretty high ^^; course I believe in some states taco belle pays 11.25 or 11.50? Yet the rent up there is like 1200 for just a one bedroom apartment :P

Time = Money

for the fortunate few bronies that are in the more professional or much higher paying fields good on them :P But I have a family to think of as well as my own wants. I wasn't attacking her, I just get a bit disheartened when something I would normally pay 50 bucks for goes for 10 time that xD I have no doubt someone will pick this up. Many customs out there but this one is by far my favorite and imho most show accurate custom Chrysalis yet with far as I see no visible defects I can see.

No just rather disappointed in that I do want one but hmm not being my favorite character I doubt I'd go that far with it :P

She's made out of Apoxie Sculpt. I've never heard of Onyx before. As for tools it's just the regular sculpting tools.

Yes, it is a shame! However I'd be making them at an asylum because it'd seriously drive me insane to have to make another one ever again.:stupidme: *sigh* Yes, NEVER again! ha ha!

lol it's more the fact I could pay that much but then I'd lose internet for a few weeks xD (NOT gonna happen D:)
Onyx is a gem stone, it was just a common stone as well.

I am happy at how much detail you put into this one. If she was a Luna with this much care I might have risked the price! lol;
My favorite custom so far of Chrysalis. Very sweet.

Thank you!! I'm so glad to hear that you don't think it's unreasonable. Like I mentioned in the comment above, ponychan comments got to me and I'm a mess. O.O I wasn't trying to rip people of or be greedy, people just wanted to undercut me on my set of the main six and they were saying I was crazy to want so much money. This was when the bidding was at $100 for six ponies making it out to be $16 per pony -.-

Anyways! It's a nice change of pace to have the opposite reaction and comments about my asking price this time around.

"This was when the bidding was at $100 for six ponies making it out to be $16 per pony -.-"

Ponychan... yeah no sorry but they are idiots. Hell just a small supply of that stuff costs 15 bucks and that's the cheapest! If you want the bigger or the more fancier one a bottle of that can go for 30-35 bucks. you'd a been making a dollar off each pony! These aren't hard to make in the slightest. I'm sorry I used to make porcelain masks and dolls with my aunt who would have me help her and I know how time consuming something can be vs cost of materials. She never made loads of cash but she loved what she did and made enough to support her lively hood.

Not claiming to be an expert at pony clay works but materials vs cost + time investment. I don't know how many mistakes or remakes you've done but if you add up the cost of materials used to make this, you add that to the price. THEN you start adding in time invested. Then comes the part where it's more sentimental vs how much can I get for this? OBVIOUSLY this took a LOT of time to get the way you wanted. Hell it even made me come here and comment on it and that truly is a rarity in it's own!

NO ONE expects you to GIVE this away. Lots will try and get you to think or troll you to think it isn't worth it. But fact remains it's a one of a kind. You won't make more. This is your bargaining chip. It's how Whitedove has managed to get a huge love hate relationship with the fans and other makers of plushies and such. Someone WILL buy eventually. There are people out there. Still, if you ever manage to get the hang of it you can still please both crowds and make a profit. Just like a said material+time investment should be the main pricing point. After that it gets iffy because one gets attached to things they invested in. That can add to the value in cases like this where sentimental value+wanting compensation for the time spent comes in.

I'll just stop bantering here and just say that if Ponychan is where you go for price suggestions or feedback you're doing it wrong :P
A cold truth is that if you have the talent you can name any price for any reason. You made it. Plain and simple. Many won't like it even if the reason behind it was sincere and just, so yes one small figure for 500 bucks made from a batch of 15 dollar materials and other unmentionables that one can get for cheap at any supply store, will rub some the wrong way. That is business. That is art. You made it you price it and let it be. Worst case scenario you end up with a beautiful new friend to display and show off to friends and family!

far as that mane 6 I would of charged them 35-45 PER pony. ON TOP of the 15 PLUS they'd have to pay shipping and handling. That can get pricey but since they are small and if they are willing to take the 5-7 day shipping to afford better protective packaging for something like this then that is an option too. Business is knowing how to promote. Personally and just judging by the looks not knowing what you've paid in materials to make this I'd a priced it around 250-300. IMHO 500 is not worth it. Beautiful but to *ME* it isn't worth it.... now if it was Luna... mayba... MAYBE.

People love to complain about prices. I make plushies and it takes a good 30 hours of time to make them so I charge $325-$375 for standard mane six type ones, and you wouldn't believe the complaints some people have about those prices. I'm sorry, but I don't really want to make less than $10 an hour for my skilled labor. No one should feel like they need to sell their work for less than that. A lot of people don't get it though. They think of these things as "toys" rather than "art" and expect it to be priced like the $10-$25 things made in a Chinese factory. Fortunately there are plenty of people who do appreciate the time and skill it takes to make art like this though too though. It's just a lot easier to remember the complaints and mean comments sometimes.

Thank you! It's always reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one this happens to.

My gosh, the nerve of these people! People who complain should go out there and try to make one themselves if they think that your plushies are only worth $10-$15. I agree that some people just don't get it. The thing that bugs me is that people complain about not having "x" pony item and then once someone makes it then they complain about the price!

I wish I were as strong as you are about your set prices. I'm just too much of a Fluttershy when it comes to these types of things.

Hey if people don't want to buy them at my prices I'll just have more cute ponies I can keep!

I don't have commissions rolling in like :iconwhitedove-creations: but I still get a pretty steady flow of requests so there are certainly people out there willing to pay what these things are worth. Just try to ignore the complainers!

ha ha! That's a positive spin on things! And yes, I do believe that the best thing to do would be to ignore the complainers. I honestly don't mind constructive criticism and opinions because I like learning from what people have to say. However I just think that it's completely rude and unnecessary to be mean and nasty in order to get your way. :/

By the way, your customs are amazing! I love your Queen Chrysalis plushie! I also loved the bit where you said that "cost would probably be an arm, a leg, your first born child, and your immortal soul". Ha ha! I loved that! :giggle:
